چکیده

P a t i e n t s 299 patients > 16 years of age (median age 69 y, 54% women) who presented with clinically suspected PE and a plasma D-dimer level > 500 μg/L. Exclusion criteria were contraindication to CT or anticoagulants (serum creatinine level > 150 μmol/L, allergy to contrast agent, asthma, or pregnancy), treatment with oral anticoagulants on study entry, probable difficulty of follow-up, or expectation of survival < 3 months. Follow-up to 3 months was complete.

DVT and pulmonary embolism: Part I. Diagnosis.

The incidence of venous thromboembolic diseases is increasing as the U.S. population ages. At least one established risk factor is present in approximately 75 percent of patients who develop these diseases. Hospitalized patients and nursing home residents account for one half of all cases of deep venous thrombosis. A well-validated clinical prediction rule can be used for risk stratification of...

Clinical outcomes in patients with suspected acute pulmonary embolism and negative helical computed tomographic results in whom anticoagulation was withheld.

BACKGROUND Helical computed tomography (CT) techniques for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism have been refined over the past decade. Helical CT is widely used in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism despite the lack of well-designed trials supporting this approach. Although helical CT correlates well with pulmonary angiography in detecting central emboli, critics argue that it misses more dist...

Periodontal Pockets as a Potential Source of Infection: a Case of Possible Odontogenic Septic Pulmonary Embolism

Although dental foci can be sources of bacteremia and bacterial endocarditis, hematogenous spread of infection presented with septic pulmonary embolism apparently is rare. The occurrence of septic pulmonary embolism in patients with periodontal disease without suppurative thrombophlebitis of the great vessels of the neck is well documented but to our knowledge, there is no report on septic pulm...

Comparison of computed tomographic and cytological results in evaluation of normal prostate, prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia in dogs

Prostate gland can be structurally evaluated by computed tomography (CT) with taking advantages of tomographic feature and post-contrast parenchymal changes. The current examination initiated to determine association between computed tomographic and cytological results in evaluation of canine prostate. Thirty mature male dogs were included and under gone by both CT and fine needle sampling of p...

Diagnosing pulmonary embolism in outpatients with clinical assessment, D-dimer measurement, venous ultrasound, and helical computed tomography: a multicenter management study.

PURPOSE To evaluate a diagnostic strategy for pulmonary embolism that combined clinical assessment, plasma D-dimer measurement, lower limb venous ultrasonography, and helical computed tomography (CT). METHODS A cohort of 965 consecutive patients presenting to the emergency departments of three general and teaching hospitals with clinically suspected pulmonary embolism underwent sequential non...
